It's been a long time, I shouldn't have left you, without a dope beat to step to...

So TWENTEEN HQ is working on a friday night, in preparation for several developments in the coming week or two.

Before I announce said 'developments,' I should probably talk about the exciting stuff that has already happened.

Exciting Stuff Number 1.

We're lucky to have a brand new Wales- based correspondent, LAURA ELIZABETH JOHNSON.

She'll be helping to bridge the gap between London and Wales in preparation for our distribution expansion to Cardiff, and will also be finding us the wonderful Welsh gems we don't already know about.
Without giving too much away, it's gonna be ace.

Exciting Stuff Number 2.

TWENTEEN GOT FUNDING. Not just a verbal contract, or a 'we'll see what we can do' email, but a real-life receipt of £X amount deposited into the TWENTEEN account. This means a lot of things. It opens doors to further opportunities, it guarantees we go to print for Issue 2 and it gives us that little push of encouragement to keep at it and not give up.

The feeling is one of humble gratitude, almost too much to handle at times. Sometimes I feel like I might be having a heart attack, but then I realise it's just my heart BURSTING WITH HAPPINESS. I kind of feel like a princess, but instead of having expensive gowns and tiara's, I have a small publication and a little fat black kitten, which are both way better.

Exciting Stuff Number 3.

TWENTEEN will be appearing at the ALTERNATIVE PRESS ZINE FAIR 2010.
Watch this space for more details.

**BIG DEVELOPMENTS/ STUFF COMING UP.**

The Interview.
TWENTEEN's Berlin based writer JACKEE WORD will be interviewing our newest AMAZING discovery in a matter of days.

We're going to keep it under wraps for now, but you can always visit him at his blog here.

The Gig.
TWENTEEN is so excited about seeing THE SLACKERS at the Jazz Cafe August 10th, we might piss ourselves.
I love this band more now than I ever have, and getting to go as a member of the PRESS with awesome music photographer LOLA PEACH BAXTER is the icing on the beautiful cake.

The Website.

So we're on the look-out to have our website COMPLETELY revamped as soon as possible. We're shopping around and may have found the perfect team for the job, but IF YOU THINK YOU KNOW SOMEONE WHO COULD DO BETTER drop us an email at

jobs@twenteenzine.co.uk

with 'WEBSITE' in the subject line.

TWENTEEN now also has a FACEBOOK PROFILE, as well as the GROUP. Click each respectively to be redirected to those pages.

If you haven't already, ADD US!

Right, off to do some research.... have a good weekend!!

A very long weekend

A very long weekend

I'm literally forcing myself to blog before the events of the past five days escape my memory much-like any exam revision I've ever done. Really quite tempted to put matchsticks in my eyelids but that'd probably hurt quite a lot. It could also lead to permanent blindness, which would mean that I wouldn't be able to look up at the clouds in Victoria park and think about how nice it is when the sky's not just vast, but beautiful.

Thanks to the lovely Katherine, Twenteen was able to go to the Creators Project at Victoria House. Hosted by VICE, INTEL and having something or other to do with MARK RONSON, the basement venue was overtaken by an impressive amount of installations, workshops, bands, dj's and a multitude of creative types along for the ride.

Guests were treated to a plentiful supply of free drinks (including an awesome selection of tasty cocktails- Bacardi Rum + Ginger Ale = yum!) and there were also rows of laptops lining certain rooms providing free internet access for those eager bloggers/ tweeters to give a minute-by-minute rundown of the evening's events, presumably because being a basement venue, it was assumed that most people's phone receptions would be kaput. Twenteen, rather predictably, was far too busy 'testing' the booze to be quite so efficient.

There were even interactive light and video installations where the observer could affect the art, an audience-participation track creation POP PANEL, and screenings of Spike Jonze's short film, I'M HERE. Take a look at our exclusive super- duper Twenteen behind the scenes photos, taken by Dan Deroy on his snazzy, (yet signal losing) iPhone 4.

All-in-all, the evening was a jolly- good success, and in our humble opinion, was a fantastic and memorable creative treat, bringing together like-minded people in an inspiring environment. Yeah, it would've been great if there hadn't been such a mammoth queue for the women's loo, and yeah, the temperature in the auditorium reached unbearably tropical proportions during the POP panel, but those were two very small prices to pay indeed.

DOUBLE THUMBS UP FOR THE CREATORS PROJECT.

LOVEBOX.

Rolling into Victoria Park ridiculously late, Twenteen was armed with rucksacks full of issue one, ready to hand-out to an unsuspecting public. My original (stupid) idea was to leave a bunch outside the toilets, so people would have something to read on the crapper. Of course, pitch black and foul sticking portaloos are not exactly the reading place of choice for most sane individuals, so on realising this, we started traipsing the crowd and picking out selected 'chosen ones' to receive a copy.

During the height of sunstroke tipsy-ness, TWENTEEN was filmed by WINKBALL. Watch the disastrous affair HERE, where I completely forget to plug twenteen. Doh!->

http://www.winkball.com/walls/festivals/lovebox_sunday/

I'm the 7th one.

For Twenteen, dancing to '**** the pain away,' as dusk turned to night, with quite possibly the best company in the entire world, elevated our already high opinion of Peaches. And determined not to let a tiny thing like a broken leg get in the way, Peaches was carted around stage in a wheelchair by a tranny. AMAZING.

THE LILYFRANCIS EXHIBITION
LILYFRANCIS.CO.UK

Arriving just in the nick of time before the doors closed, TWENTEEN was pleasantly surprised at this diamond of an exhibition, showcasing the impressive selected works of a group of global artists. It was actually the first time in our short history of attending such exhibitions, that we seriously considered a bank loan in order to actually buy one of the beautiful pieces.
The venue was quaint, spacious enough to walk around comfortably, with wooden floors that gave the feeling of an old village hall. The contrast of this with some of the pieces of photography worked spectacularly. Hats off to the wonderful and talented Francis L. Brooks and the other artists (see flyer above.)

Do make sure to check out LILYFRANCIS.CO.UK, and if you are in LONDON, pop down to the exhibition at THE GALLERY, STOKE NEWINGTON. The exhibition is open now until JULY 26th.

What an extended weekend! We're positively knackered, but back in the HQ, documenting, sorting, emailing, proof-reading and researching for ISSUE TWO. As ever, if you'd like to contribute, enquire, or just say hi, you can find us at

Working the nightshift

Not content with working normal hours, the Twenteen HQ (me and my laptop in my kitchen) pulled an all-nighter.
Assisted by Salem (my cat) and Dan, emails were sent, business plans were shipped off and proposals were finalised. In the next week or so I'll be finding out whether Twenteen is going to expand distribution to CARDIFF, and am looking to fill a position for a Wales-based correspondent. Exciting stuff.

Why Wales? Well, why not Wales eh? But the jargon for prosepctive investors is that Twenteen's objective is to create a 'portal' between London and Wales in which to exchange new talent in the creative industries and institutions. It's not really jargon actually, it's a pretty normal, straight-forward objective. Gotta love the word 'jargon' though.

This weekend Twenteen will be frequenting LOVEBOX, armed with a Canon SLR and a trough-load of enthusiasm. The aim is to schmooze with celebrities, but I'm not fussy. Someone from the most recent series of SKINS will do. Preferably Effy, Freddy or the hot twin. I am also attempting to attend THE CREATORS PROJECT party on Saturday night, but so far have had no luck in getting a ticket, despite my best attempts at winning some via their facebook page. This has made me kind of sad, but I guess I'll have to make do with the free daytime exhibition and console myself by going to see INCEPTION at the cinema.

AH, THE JOYS OF BEING A NOBODY.

Sneak preview of Arthur&Albert shoot for issue 2, featuring the work of Danny Hall, Carla Rees, Clare Bryant, Lisa Price, Vintage For Sale, Mint Siren, Holly Jeffry and Marc Jorden.

So brand new.

'being inbetween at twenteen' is the behind-the-scenes blog of twenteen 'zine.
twenteen 'zine is an accidental business proposal that got pushed through and is now in the hands of myself, an unorganised dreamer seemingly allergic to anything that may end successfully.
this blog is a virtual documentation of the trials and tribulations encountered in starting up a magazine when all the odds are far from favourable.

So I'm slouching towards the inevitable with about as much enthusiasm as a wet carrot. Having been on 'hiatus' from Twenteen for about a month, today, in the wake of a mojito hangover, my aching body decided enough is enough and it was high time I get back to business.

'Business' is kind of bullshit. The idea of selling comes about as naturally to me as ancient greek. This is why I will never be rich. That, and I'm terribly lazy. But enough bigging myself up, I've got work to do.

The first issue of 'Twenteen' came out reasonably smoothly in April. Distribution has been a bit slack. Apparently boxes and boxes of magazines under the stairs at my flat don't distribute themselves.

You can get a copy by emailing naida@twenteenzine.co.uk OR you can have a read through the online version HERE-> http://twenteenzine.co.uk/

Work commences for Issue 2 with a 15 minute photobooth shoot with an iced ring donut, hence the above photo. I'm still in my pyjamas. Today is going to be a good day.
